Woven Scarves - IKA BUTONI

Woven Scarves - IKA BUTONI
Woven Scarves - IKA BUTONI
TI was founded by Budiyono, a textile graduate from the Institute of Textile Technology (ITT), Bandung – Indonesia.

Since 1989, from one handloom, Budiyono began to handweave. His specialty lies in the traditional weaving techniques, combined with innovation from modern art to create a unique and special pieces made by the handloom.

In 1995 he began to focus in producing hand-woven silk pieces..

He loves his work as a textile designer, challenging himself to create new designs and unique hand-woven scarves. He believes a piece that has been hand-woven must have a special uniqueness, obtained from a combination of a sense of art with his knowledge in textiles.

In general, people's perception of silk cloth is its smooth and soft touch. But TI just wanted to highlight various unique textures as special characteristics.

In early 2009, TI had a new innovation by combining some natural dye silk yarn to create various shades of color on each texture of a hand-woven item.

One of the top achievement is when our silk hand-woven scarves obtained international acclaim through an international event ’ASEAN Silk Fabric and Fashion Design Competition 2009’ in Bangkok, Thailand.

In these two events, TI won a total of two awards:

~ TOP AWARD from HM. Queen Sirikit of Thailand
~ The 1st Royal Trophy Award from the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative of Thailand

IKA BUTONI dresses and jackets come in a range of colours suitable for fusing to create a new look to any outfit. They include metallic shades, perfect for a wow statement and the party season vibe.

The curves and lines are created using the binding method and individually slashed pieces have been used in these designs to give a slightly different textural finishing. The techniques are equally impressive and beautiful in method of application to the garments surface decoration, to an otherwise simple silhouette.

The range of these pieces, part of the IKA BUTONI INTERNATIONAL collection are designed to not be restricting the body due to the under stretch jersey base, which has been cleverly selected to allow the fitted silhouette and full comfort in movement. The strips of leatherette are overlapping, creating patterns with sharp and striking precision.

The use of yards and yards of leatherette strips show the amount of hand work and love which is given to each garment giving a finish which illuminates in elegance. The effect is even more stunning when worn, as the pieces move with and against the body, giving a visual appeal, illusion capturing effect.

IKA BUTONI Drape Silk Chiffon Batik

IKA BUTONI Drape Silk Chiffon Batik
IKA BUTONI Drape Silk Chiffon Batik
Draped Silk Chiffon Batik, multi panelled mid-length top with Kimono style cross over front design, featuring elbow length sleeves with cuffs that may be folded up to further to give a different and more relaxed effect. Part of our IKA BUTONI INTERNATIONAL casual range.

The semi sheer fabrics make this garment light and airy, allowing ease of movement and can be layered with other Butoni garments to create new wearing combinations. The intricate dyed patterns are created using the technique of Batik. This long and masterful process makes pieces using this method of transfer and dye, such a piece of art.
IKA BUTONI Drape Silk Chiffon Batik
IKA BUTONI Drape Silk Chiffon Batik
The process of Batik – hot wax is used as a drawing tool, it is used to block out areas of a material, and in this case silk chiffon fabric is the base material. The parts that have been decorated with the batik are resistant to dye transfer, but the remaining fabric can be, section by section layered with different dye and the patterns created can be overlapped using the batik method. This means that several colours may be used creating new unique combinations in a garment.

An amazing process, which has to be seen to be fully appreciated. Ika’s prints resemble ancient motifs, with a culturally inspired twist, the cutting with a relaxed flowing feel creates a rather interesting silhouette.

The Batik technique can be found in many of IKA BUTONI’s products.

IKA BUTONI TOP
IKA BUTONI TOPS
Each panel has been creatively over-locked so that it is visible on the exterior of the garment, making a big statement. Notice the hem flows with the mixed panels which, with the asymmetric shape, is part of the creative cutting. A desirable piece is featured. The combination of over-locking, cover seaming, zigzag stitching and finishing details in a focal colour gives a subtle yet raw edge to this design. Combined with asymmetric joining panels and mix & match print work a fun and youthful edge is given.

Part of our IKA BUTONI INTERNATIONAL range, for the active women of the 21st century, looking for outstanding quality and style, yet still feel comfortable every moment.
The garment comes in a variety of coloured print combinations, all of which are very unique and the selection of colours are beautifully combined.

The Warrior - Johannesburg, South Africa

Warrior - Fashion Guru in South Africa
Blue as clear as the skyline of Africa
Ika was invited by the Fashion Guru in South Africa, Dawn Demetriades to launch IKA collection in Johannesburg.

The original collection ' Gladiator ' was renamed ' Warrior '.

Seven team members of Butoni Limited and Hong Kong based international photographer Raymond Chan left for the show. Although it was a long and tiring trip, it was well worth it.

Raymond had the chance to capture the mood, the scenery and the culture of the Soweto and the Sulu Village. With the 4 African models, we started early at 4.00am, trying to capture the morning sun, and ended savoring the golden sunset.

We left a memorable mark on the land, with a Full House to the Evening Gala Show, attended by the most beautiful people of Africa.

Five percent of the Sale of IKA merchandise went to help the Aids Foundation in Africa.
